Over the past couple of months, on my own blog, I've posted a series on branding SharePoint 2010 collaboration sites without making any Master Page modifications to be able to take advantage of SharePoint 2010's new theming engine features.
In a nutshell, we work our way through the following topics:
- taking a look at how the new SharePoint 2010 theming engine works;
- where to put your CSS and images and how you register your CSS links so that they take advantage of the theming engine features; and
- using delegate controls to add your CSS links without having to modify any master pages.
